Thanks to the generous donation of the Colbys, in 1992, of their estate – the Villa, the barn and all the furniture – located in the heart of the town of Stanstead, the Company now favors an ideal place to permanently house its collections. remarkable, and thus preserve the cultural heritage of this border region.
The permanent exhibition offers the opportunity for visitors to experience the elegant way of life enjoyed by generations of members of this important border family, and the temporary exhibitions allow other aspects of the fascinating history of the region to be highlighted. Stanstead County area.

Visitors are invited to dive into a feminine world, the garden, combining more than 100 contemporary photographs by artists Anne-Marie Proulx and Sara A.Tremblay with historical objects from the Museum’s collection. The exhibition is a collaboration between the artists and the curators Samuel Gaudreau-Lalande and Julie-Ann Latulippe.
Generally seen as an organized, controlled space where humans seek to domesticate nature, a garden can also be a wild, peripheral place that becomes familiar and intimate through exploration.
The exhibition Cut flowers / De la terre sous les ongles invites you to explore these two types of spaces through the worlds of two contemporary artists intersected with historical works and archives, inspiring reflections on the relationship between plants and bodies in garden practices.
The Caregivers / Les Généreuses
The temporary exhibition The Caregivers/Les Généreuses, curated by Marie Lavorel, tells the story of multiple vibrant traces of feminine commitment within the Stanstead community through the contributions of the Women's Institutes and women who have shaped local social life.
These stories, traces, and objects, drawn from archives bequeathed by the Women's Institutes and from the participatory process established by the Colby-Curtis Museum with elders from the local Anglophone community, revolve around the common notion of generosity.
The exhibition revisits the altruism passed down by powerful grandmothers and mothers who nurtured and cared for today's elders in the 20th century. Their social commitment also greatly contributed to territorial social cohesion as well as the recognition and education of women.
