Support the Museum and The SHS
The Stanstead Historical Society has a lot to celebrate. We’ve got a committed board of directors with strong skills and a clear vision for our splendid Colby-Curtis Museum. We’ve got a talented, creative and motivated staff, backed by some dedicated volunteers. And we’ve got a stable membership that supports our work. The results are clear: a high-functioning, professionally run, community-oriented, bilingual regional museum that serves as a hub for a broad range of heritage, cultural and community programs for people of all ages and backgrounds.
Carrollcroft, which is home to our museum and its extensive collection of artefacts, artworks and archival holdings, was classified as a heritage property this past year by Quebec’s Ministry of Culture. In addition to creating opportunities that did not exist before, this recognition is an honour. It is also a responsibility, in that as with the thousands of objects in our care, Carrollcroft is a legacy for future generations that we take very seriously.
We’ve had some superb programming this year. Just one of the many highlights is “The Caregivers,” our major exhibition focusing on the role that senior women have played, and continue to play, in our community. Another was our exhibit of whimsical garden art: what a fun display! We are also currently developing a “co-creation” project with community members; this initiative (which you are all invited to participate in) will showcase life on the border, which of course is key to our mission.
Our educational program is a big success, as well. Over half of Stanstead’s classrooms are now participating in our school activities. This program is so innovative, in fact, that it is currently the object of a university study! Our special teas continue to be as popular as ever.
And our “Free Sunday” line-up is going full-steam ahead, with conferences, fairs and workshops taking place on the first Sunday of each month, all of them open to the public free of charge.
None of this would be possible without the financial support of our members and donors. Which is why we are launching this AnnualGiving Campaign.
The activities outlined here, and in our 2024 Annual Report, which we invite you to consult at colbycurtis.ca, will give you an idea of the quality and originality of our programming.
Of course, there are big things in the works, as well, and we hope you will be a part of it!
Your support helps us to accomplish our mission of preserving, interpreting and presenting the history, heritage and culture of the border regions of the Eastern Townships, and contributes in a meaningful way to building a vibrant community.
All donations are tax-deductible. You can donate in one of several ways: by credit card online; by e-transfer to info@colbycurtis.ca; by cheque to the Stanstead Historical Society (535 Dufferin, Stanstead, QC, J0B 3E0); or by calling us at 819-876-7322.
On behalf of all the directors, staff and volunteers, thank you so much for your support. It means a lot!
