Agricultural Fairs in Stanstead County: Innovations and Popular Culture

June 11th – October 30th 2015

This fascinating exhibition looked at the history of the County Fairs. The continued involvement of the local community has made the Stanstead County Fair, at Ayer’s Cliff, a highly anticipated annual event, not to be missed by residents and visitors alike. Through long-standing tradition, Country Fairs such as this have promoted agricultural improvement in all its forms, encouraged skilled handicraft and introduced new domestic labour-saving devices conceived in order to make life easier for farm women. These three features were showcased in the exhibition.
