About the Colby-Curtis Museum
The Colby-Curtis Museum is located in the town of Stanstead in the Eastern Townships, near the US border, and it is housed in Carrollcroft, a superb villa built in 1859 that has retained all of its original character. The mission of the Colby-Curtis Museum is to preserve, interpret and present the history, heritage and culture of Stanstead and the surrounding border communities. To fulfill this mission, the Museum team organizes numerous events each year, including exhibitions, conferences, cultural events and fundraising activities. The Colby-Curtis Museum is an important cultural hub of the Eastern Townships and, with nearly 4,000 visitors each year, it is a dynamic place with a multitude of events. Job description
The Museum is looking for a part time Guide for the fall. In close collaboration with the permanent staff of the Museum, the Guides have four main responsibilities:

  • Welcoming visitors and monitoring the Museum;

  • Cultural mediation and interpretation of exhibitions;

  • Ensuring the well-being of the collections and the cataloging of artefacts, archival documents and old books;

  • Helping with running special events.

Candidates for the position of Guide must demonstrate the following interests, skills and qualities:

Working conditions
The Guide position is a part-time job. Possibility to start immediately. The working hours are 9:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays in September and Saturday from 9:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in October, November and December. The job is paid an hourly rate of $ 14.

Since the position is funded by the Young Canada Works (YCW) program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a Canadian citizen and be legally authorized to work in Canada;

  • Be between 16 and 30 years old;

  • Commit to working for the duration of the employment and not to have another full-time job (more than 30 hours) during the entire duration of the employment with YCW;

  • Have been a full-time high school, college, CEGEP or university student (as defined by the educational institution) during the semester prior to employment with YCW and intend to return to full-time studies during the semester following employment with YCW.
